Welcome Aimee!

DSC09679We warmly welcome Aimee Ewart to our team. Aimee has joined the wonderful team at The Cubby House as the new Team Leader for Children’s Programs. We are delighted to have her on board! Here is a bit more about Aimee:

Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the new Team Leader here at the Cubby House.

A little bit about me, my family and I moved 4 months ago from Christchurch New Zealand. I have two daughters Eden 6 and Isabelle 16.

I have had the pleasure of working in early childhood for the last 7 years and over this time did my Bachelor in Teaching (ECE).  I have worked with all age groups ranging from birth to 6 years and have a strong belief that the early years are the foundation to a child’s learning journey as this is where they learn empathy, respect, and to contribute their thoughts and ideas as well as valuing the thoughts of others. It is also where children discover the fun and love of learning whilst playing.

Please if you have any questions for me or just want a chat come and see me!

A message from Lynette

My name is Lynette Rieck and I am pleased and excited to have been appointed the new Team Leader here at The Cubby House.

I have extensive experience  in the Early Childhood Education sector, (Long Day Care, Occasional Care, Family Day Care, Outside School Hours Care, Vacation Care, and Adult Education ), and hope to put my experience to good use in this vital and welcoming centre.

I am also looking forward to getting to know all the children and their families, and to building strong, supportive relationships with you all.

The team has made what we believe to be positive changes to the centre over the last few weeks, creating new and vibrant displays, and incorporating more natural and recycled objects into the activities we are providing for the children.

Please come and have a look around, and ask us any questions you may have about what we are doing.

This is your centre, in your community, so please feel free to come and have a look around

Busy weekend at RCLC.

We had a great time at the Melbourne Girls Collage Pedal Cinema Event on Friday, and then on Sunday we hosted our monthly repair session at Burnley Backyard with many items fixed and mended.

Big thanks to all the fixers who came in and shared their skills and knowledge. Thanks to everyone who attended as well.

We managed to fix and mend a hedge trimmer, 2 vacuum cleaners, a sewing machine, a potato peeler, 2 pairs of jeans, a few necklaces, a hat and some shoes!

Well done everyone. Over 24kg diverted from landfill!

Repair, Mend & Make

February 25, 2018, 10:00am - February 25, 2018, 12:00pm

Say no to waste by fixing and reusing items you already own. Hello everyone! Our first 2018 Repair, Mend and Make session will be on Sunday the 25th of February. Our excellent volunteer fixers Helen, Tim and Steve will be on hand again to fix your broken/damaged goods. Helen is our clothes and fabrics whisperer. She'll attempt to mend your clothes and other fabrics, test your faulty sewing machine and even show you how to use it. As a Bonus from 11am, Helen will also be showing people how to make their own wonderful kids snake doll (Sam the Snake!) using old fabrics. Tim will be looking at small electrical appliances (kettle, toaster, turntable, lamps, radios, vacuum cleaners, sewing machines etc.). Furniture repair is another thing that Tim can do. Steve can check you bike for any issues it might have and either fix it or recommend what you should do with it. He's been volunteering at Second Chance Cycles for quite some time now so got plenty of experience! Are you a bit of fixer yourself? Join us and share your skills! We’d love to be able to offer a variety of fixing services to the community (bikes, jewellery, computers, books, anything really!). We'd also love some help on the day with setting up, welcoming people and taking photos. Planning on coming along with something to fix? send us a photo in advance so we can give our fixers a heads-up on what’s coming in on the day. See you then 🙂 #sustainability #repaircorner #community #zerowaste #communityconnections #WarOnWasteAU
